Hello everyone! Our first game in this new category is Mortal Kombat — of course. I'm a big fan of the series; it's actually the first game I ever enjoyed on PS2 when I was a kid. I've been playing it for the past 4 days and I'm 50% into story mode. Let's review!
PS: I'm playing the game on PS3. If you want to know how, check out the tutorial here.
Story
The story follows two earthrealm warriors: Liu Kang and Kung Lao, aided by Raiden the God of thunder, our warriors fight to stop Shang Tsung from dragging earthrealm into an unlawful Mortal Kombat tournament, in which if earthrealm loses. The forces of dark will conquer it. To stop this from happening, our fighters travel to the darkest corner of the world : Outworld.
Game Mechanics
What I love about this game it's all the mechanics in it, it's an rpg style where you can play with your friend/sibling the story mode in the same screen ( We have the same feature in Call of Duty Black Ops 1,2 in Zombies: Split Screen) it's called ko-up. You can gather points to buy combos and special moves, there is puzzle solving too and many other cool mechanics I wish modern games had.
Test Your Might
This is a famous game mechanic in which you have to press X for a certain number of times in order to cross the bar and press L1 and you pass the " test " . The problem is not here, the problem is you have to have GOD fingers to do this, literally. Doing this alone as a challenge is hard, try doing it while facing a boss: Baraka.
Baraka
Just so you know, Baraka isn't supposed to even be a boss, like he is an evil character but not that hard to be a boss. That was the thought I had before facing him in Outworld inside the Living Forest. What I can tell you, is I broke my controller's analog stick with this guy. He is really hard, guess why? TEST YOUR MIGHT. When you try to hit Baraka with your sword, you are put to the challenge, you literally have to BOMB that X button, and when you do it and you are relieved. You have to do it again.
Reptile
He was really easy, when you infiltrate the Living Forest in Outworld more you face this guy's giant snake first ( really easy don't worry) than you face him. You just have to guess where he is, because he is invisible, so just do combos around until you find him. But the boss after this one won't be hard to find: Goro
Goro
As you can see, Goro is a basically a giant with four arms ( kind of like four arms in Ben 10, just not funny). So you'd think if the little Baraka gave me a hard time, with this guy I would've broken the TV. Surprisingly I didn't, he was too easy, he just swings at you with one of the room pillars and you have to spam him with special moves. Even tho Goro has a reputation of been unbeatable, he never faced the two bosses after him : Sub-Zero Scorpion
Sub-Zero Scorpion
So these two mf's are very known in the franchise to give hard time to players. When I decided to play this game, I was prepared for that because I already have history with them in Mortal Kombat X. Facing Sub-Zero was really easy, just throw the skulls at him, they do more damage than specials or combos. After we beat him, he becomes our ally and we discover he ain't the real Sub-Zero, because his brother (the real one) died to Scorpion in Mortal Kombat. He takes us to Netherrealm to face the latter, when we get there Sub-Zero is seen chasing after Smoke, which he thinks is his brother. We continue our way to face Scorpion.
Let me tell you, it was the coolest fight in the game for me (as of now) when you beat him as Scorpion he comes back with a cool flaming skull as Hellfire Scorpion. Really cool, he wasn't hard too. Baraka still holds the first place for me.
Tarkata
This isn't a boss, he's just the common enemy you face all along the game. Why I brought him up? bro facing these mf's is harder than Goro. Do you know why is that? just Guess who they look like . Yup, Baraka. It seems to be that Baraka is from this race, that explains everything. Man I do really hate this guy from now on.
Conclusion
Even tho I hate Baraka, I deem this game to be one of the most legendary games out there. Play it and Enjoy your Childhood, to those who haven't played it when they were kids, be kids now there is still time!
